Please note: this seminar has been moved to Tuesday, September 29 (the new user seminar is usually on Mondays) due to a major conflict with staff scheduling - we apologize for any inconvenience, however without sufficient staff to ensure local site support it could be much worse. If you have problems with this scheduling change, please contact the seminar organizer (David McCaughan: dbm@sharcnet.ca) to explore alternate arrangements..

Our regular Introduction to SHARCNET Literacy seminar. The seminar provides an overview of available SHARCNET systems, and basic usage information including job submissions/management, queueing policies and available software and support. Attendance at this seminar enables a user to acquire SHARCNET User I certification.

NOTE: in order to better serve users at non-SHARCNET institutions, or who otherwise have issues with accessing/using AccessGrid facilities, this is the second seminar that will be delivered using a Webinar format. Shortly before the start of this seminar, you can direct your web browser to http://www.dimdim.com and select “Join Meeting” - the meeting room is “sharcnet”, and we ask that you use your SHARCNET username as the “Name” (to simplify recording who is present).

You will require the Adobe Flash plug-in, which most people will already have installed; however, you will be prompted to install it when you try to join the meeting. If you have a web cam and microphone, the plug-in should detect them and offer to use them, however you should be able to receive video, audio and desktop presentation materials directly in your browser regardless. Additional information is available in the Online Training Centre.

Note that for the month of September, the AccessGrid rooms at the SHARCNET sites will still be opened, and users can attend the Webinar from that location if they choose.
